This is a dream I had.

Please PLAY THIS SONG before and during reading. I have used this song as a ‘play while you read’ before – but this time, this song was actually playing in my dream

I was on an island for some time for a festival. It kind of looked like Miami but a food festival. There were people everywhere that were wearing 90’s clothes. There was some type of air show going on because there were jets and helicopters flying over everywhere. Oddly, when I looked up, it seemed like there was way more depth to the sky. Like when you go outside and look into the stars, it seems like you can only look so far before the sky fades to black. But in this dream, I could see for light years. I felt like I was in a Star Wars movie and I could just see galaxies upon galaxies. There were so many different planets and stars. The sky had this orange and light blue gradient that filled space from horizon to horizon. It was like I was in a cloud city (another star wars reference).

My brother (who was not my real life brother, well – he didn’t look it anyway) and I got into a helicopter. We began to fly around and I remember us arguing about something during the flight. He was yelling at me, and I looked down and there was a wedding happening on a floating island below us. I ignored it. As we took off from the island, we began heading south over a body of water. The first of three suns had begun to sink behind the body of water along the horizon. The second sun was still at about eye level, and the third sun was still high in the sky. We continued to head south above this crystal clear body of water, traveling maybe a thousand feet about the water.

Something happened in this time but I can’t really explain what. My brother had somehow exited the vehicle and ended up in the body of water. He still had his headset on so were we’re communicating – yelling at each other back and forth. I still cannot remember what we were fighting about. At this time, the second sun had set and it was starting to get dark. For some reason, I knew that we had to get back to main land before it was completely dark. So we decided to stop arguing and I dropped the helicopter down to the water and picked him up. There wasn’t much time to get back to land.

I pushed the helicopter to the limits and we were going as fast as we could, hovering only inches above the water. It was then that I noticed how many floating islands were beneath the festival island we were on. We were weaving in and out of the islands dodging them left and right. This is when I started to hear the music that was playing in the background. Why was there music? The floating island that had the wedding on it had dropped down in altitude and was hovering just above the water. All I remember hearing is “Who gives a fuck? Just do it!” We zoomed by the island at lightning speed, both giving the finger to everyone on the island. The wind from the propellers blew over everything on the island. After we passed, I had realized the final sun was about to set. The background music was so loud now. We had lost a considerable amount of speed after passing the island. I looked forward and there was at least a mile stretch of water before hitting the main land again.

This time, the floating islands had moved into rows – like to make an airborne runway so we could get to land faster. We shot ahead full throttle, landing skids grazing the waves beneath us. The islands began to blur as we were passing them. The plants on each floating island were losing their glow after being starved from the third sun. I couldn’t hear the sound of the propellers anymore because the music was so loud. It was at this time I heard my brother screaming. A loud, happy and exhilarating scream – like a cowboy. Like a man with nothing to lose, and nothing left to live for. I pulled the control stick towards me and shot the helicopter into the sky. All we could see was stars and planets as far as the eye could see. Suddenly I felt like we were in a jet. We started to corkscrew into the sky. My brother’s screams and the orchestra behind us was the only thing I remember hearing. At the last second, my first person view turned into a third person, and I got a final shot of myself. What I believe I saw was the final moments of a man who knew this was his last flight. The muscles of my face started to tighten as my mouth started to form a smile. But the screen went black and the music ended.

I suddenly opened my eyes and I was sitting in a movie theater full of people. Before the credits could even start rolling everyone got up and started to leave. For some reason I couldn’t leave and I started to cry in my seat. I continued to cry and the theater eventually cleared. When I finished crying I stood up and walked out. I reached my hand out to push open the exit doors…

…and then I woke up.
