Just a small update here! So during this entire process, I have thought about how to bundle these parts together. I know what I like about some of the parts, but I know that others might find the others more useful. Or maybe they just like how they perform.
With that brainstorming, and remembering how stressed out I was before about packing these kits into boxes and accidentally forgetting something. It was then I thought, “well anytime you buy something online, there is usually some kind of packing slip. Tells you what’s in the box. That’s a good idea.” That led me down a bit of rabbit hole, trying to find a fun and sexy way to get little images of these drawings so I could put them on a packing slip. Not only could I use that to make sure I pack everything when shipping, the customer would also know exactly what they got, and what each part is named. This is when I found out that the 3D modeling application Shapr3D actually has a “drawings” section, where you can select a model and create these 2D wireframe drawings of the items. I was super intrigued.
They also have this visualize option, where you can colorize the models, and also give them different textures. I really wish I had known this sooner. I could have made this so much more colorful!
Once you selected a model, you could generate a drawing of model. And it gives you the option to choose what kind of scale, measurements, and views you wanted. I just thought it was super cool. And the drawings being wire-framey and bold allowed me to just screen shot those items and paste them into photoshop, using either the magic wand or “remove background” option to cut it out quickly.
Even though I wasn’t going to be using Shapr’s version of the drawings, I still really liked the idea and look of how it was laid out. So I took that inspiration and drew a CAD-like template that I could populate with images, text, and other project or kit specific information. I’m no graphic designer, but I do love how these came out.
I basically created a format where it would be super easy to pick and choose what parts were a part of what kit. once I got the framework of the page down, all I have to do is tick or untick the box with color to show it’s part of that kit!
So here is a little sneak peak at the a few of the kits that will be available. Subject to tweaking, but for the most part I’m pretty sure these will be the final ones! Big kits, small kits, a la carte, stuff.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be utilizing the newsletter portion of Fourthwall that people can sign up for alerts on this release. One of the first things I need to do is some kind of sign up or interest form, that way I know what kind of supply I’ll need to meet the demand. More info on that soon. Thanks for reading!
